The Chevy HHR is very problematic with the factory door speakers failing. We recently had a customer call us when their driver side front door speaker stopped working in their 2006 Chevy HHR, what they thought was a problem with the factory radio, was actually just a blown door speaker. A quick replacement with some Kenwood 6.5″ speakers, and the stereo was sounding better than it ever did.
